The Grob 115E, known by the RAF as the Tutor, is used for Elementary Flying Training by the 14 University Air Squadrons and 12 Air Experience Flights throughout the UK. It is also used by the Central Flying School and for elementary WSO training at the RAF College Cranwell. All of the Tutors in RAF service are entered on the UK Civil Aircraft Register.
The Squadron gives the opportunity for each cadet to fly a 30 minute sortie, at least once a year, if not more!
These experience flights, usually run by No7 Air Experience Flight based at Royal Air Force College Cranwell, Lincolnshire. The flights can range from anything from aerial navigation exercises to aerobatics.
We also participate in gliding at the Central Gliding school at RAF Syerston. We have to types of glider, Motor powered and winched launch.
Lessons are detailed and progress from learning how the control surfaces work to learning how to use the instruments in what are know as the Gliding induction courses.
There is also the opportunity to carry out scholarships in both flying and gliding, eventually allowing you to fly whichever aircraft solo and earning a set of wings!
